Happy 4th of July to All!

Yesterday I spent the day going to base to get our son, and bring him home for the weekend. So many soldiers in uniform, and in their civilian clothes too. So many of them there, and that was just the one base out of many that we have through out the united states. 

One of the duties of my son is he has funeral detail which is for all the fallen soldiers who are brought home to the area he is in. Anyway, he was gonna get off base early yesterday because his sergeant felt they deserved a break, and wanted to cut them loose for the weekend. Then.....our son text me right outside of base that he would not be released till about 5 p.m. ....2 hours later. Ok, that is fine, it's the army, and things happen. A few minutes later he sent me another text saying that he was "getting promoted today". WooHoo! Something he was kind of waiting on, and was starting to think he was overlooked. So, when it was announced him, and his sergeant were a bit surprised as they had not been notified prior to this. So, the day ended well for our son before he left base yesterday. He was given a certificate for this accomplishment, and of course was happy too.

So, today is the 4th of July and I wish you all well during the festivities, gatherings, and etc. Please be safe. I also ask that if you see someone from the military today, someone being active now, a veteran, and so on....please shake their hand, thank them for their services, salute them, but show them how we are thankful for what they are doing for us. Those not able to be home as they are across seas please say a prayer for them. These men, and women are fighting for our rights, and freedoms of today for "US". And, remember those who have fallen for us as well. Take just a moment to be proud of our freedoms, but to also be thankful for what we have by those who fought for "US". Memorial Day, Please Remember Our Heroes!

Make this special day one for you, and your families. Please stop for a moment to remember those who cannot be with their loved ones because they have paid the ultimate price for freedom, and those who are serving far away. May the Lord Bless, and keep them all!

While we enjoy this Memorial Day with family, and friends with firing up the grills to eat our burgers, and hot dogs, please remember why we celebrate this day. We celebrate our many freedoms fought for, and won by brave men and women who today cannot be at home with their families, and for those who have given the greatest sacrifice by laying down their lives to guarantee us the joy of this day! Please, remember and honor them all!

Giving thanks to all those who gave their tomorrows so that we all can have ours! For those who are on foreign soil today still protecting us, and keeping us free. . . . Stay safe, and return to enjoy the freedoms you fight for!

So, today or anytime that you see someone in uniform or maybe know of someone serving our country, please walk up to them and shake their hand, give them a hug, or salute them as well. Tell them Thank You for what you do for Me, for my Family, for our Friends, for our Country. Believe Me, they really enjoy this, and are happy to receive this from us all. I've watched it done to our son, and the smile with pride he gets on his face for knowing he is doing our country good.

Veterans Day 2012, Thank You to All That Have Given

Welcome to LilacsNDreams today, and during the weekend everyone! I generally don't post through out the weekend as everyone is busy with their own thing, doing things that have waited to do all week, and etc. But, tomorrow is Veterans Day which is a significant time for our country, for our freedoms, and observing those who have served and are serving too. 

I found a few things to share with you from a National Geographic site on the internet talking about Veterans Day. 

With events across the country, people in the United States gathered today to honor the millions of men and women who have served or are serving in the nation's armed forces. 

Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, and the date was chosen for its symbolic significance. "November 11 was intended to observe the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, which marked the armistice of World War I,"

The first Armistice Day in the U.S. occurred on November 11, 1919, when President Woodrow Wilson declared that "to us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with lots of pride in the heroism of those who died in the country's service and with gratitude for the victory. ... "

Armistice Day was declared a legal holiday by Congress nearly 20 years later. In 1954 the name was changed to Veterans Day, following a national campaign to have the day honor all veterans, not just those who served in World War I.  

Something as simple as finding one veteran and saying thank you, it doesn't just light up their life, but it's amazing how good you feel when you see their reaction.

By many it is believed that Veterans Day is "a day to teach young people about the sacrifices made by their fathers and grandfathers, uncles and neighbors, and mothers and grandmothers." 

"It's about making sure that when the children of today hear the history lessons and traditions of our great country, they know that it would not be possible without veterans." 

This is a time for all of to remember, and to be thankful for today.     

This was found at a National Geographic News site upon internet research with Veterans Day. I hope everyone is enjoying this weekend, and on Sunday that you take a moment to remember our veterans for what they have done, remembering those who are still serving our country for Us, and don't forget to say Hi to a veteran if you see one too.

The American Flag Flies Because . . . . . 
     The American flag does not fly because the wind moves past it . . . The American flag flies from the last breath of each military member who has died serving it.  Americans don't fight because they hate what's in front of them . . . They fight because they Love what's behind them. 

Again, while celebrations of today continue for all of us, and all of what we believe in. Please, take a moment to remember those men, and women fallen. Also, remember those men, and women who are still serving today too. Bless you all, and have a wonderful Memorial Day!:)
