Your vintage attire of dresses, skirts, shirts, pants, and etc is not quite complete unless you add some accessories with it also. What better accessory to use than a vintage collectible purse handbag, right? Above is just a very few of them being noted to you. Upon a more extensive search you will see that they are still popular in todays times, and are often sought after by many people too. 

At Wikipedia I found this version for purses, handbags, and some vintage bags noted to everyone. A handbag, also a purse or pouch in American English is a handled medium to large bag that is often fashionably designed, typically used by women, to hold personal items such as wallet/coins, keys, a mobile phone, books, a pen and paper, cosmetics and jewelry, a hairbrush, contraceptives, or pepper spray. 

The term "purse" originally referred to a small bag holding coins. In British English it is still used to refer to a small coin bag. A "handbag" is a larger needed accessory that holds items beyond currency , such as a woman's personal items and emergency items to survive on. American English typically uses the terms "purse" and "handbag" interchangeably. The term "handbag" began to appear in the early 1900s. Initially, it was most often used to refer to men's hand luggage. Women's accessory bags grew larger and more complex during that period, and the term was attached to the women's accessory. Handbags are used as fashion accessories as well as functional ones. 

Like I tell many people I am carrying my mini suitcase with me, and it gets quite heavy at times too. I need my pens, notebook, wallet, checkbook, coupon organizer, address book, perfume, and in my zipper pouches of course some lipstick, lip liner, little mirror, some facial powder, and well....you know.....a mini suitcase. Only thing not in it is a change of clothes, and shoes.

Vintage Clothing, and the appreciation for the superior quality, fabric, and design that you will find within vintage clothing. This era of clothing is even more popular today with many of us including celebrities too. 

This type of clothing is a perfect solution for those wanting something that will make them look different, and make them stand out. 

One advantage is you can rest assure that you will probably not see anyone else wearing the same thing as you! Helps you to feel special, and to feel what celebrities feel when wearing these one of a kind pieces. Over time vintage clothing has become more popular again with finding such pieces, finding patterns for them, and reproducing garments from time past. 

Some of the wording, and phrasing I had found from Wikipedia when doing an internet research about vintage clothing. 

Generally clothing produced before 1920s is referred to as antique. Clothing from the 1920s to 20 years before present day is considered vintage. 

Vintage clothing is a generic term for new or second hand garments originating from a previous era. 

Retro short for retrospective, or "vintage style" usually refers to clothing that imitates the style of a previous era. 

Reproduction, or repro clothing is a newly-made copy of an older garment. 

Most vintage clothing has been previously worn, and a small percentage of pieces have not. These are often old warehouse stock, and can be more valuable than those that have been worn. Especially if they have their tags. Vintage clothing may be either commercially produced, or handmade by individuals. 

Where to find vintage clothing? Thrift Shops, Second Hand Stores, or better yet from your mother's closets, and especially from your Grandmother's closets too. If I knew then what I know now I would have hung unto some of the clothing of my Grandmother's. I can still remember her working in the kitchen, cooking, cleaning, and wearing her aprons. Course, now I wish I still had some of those things from times past.

Estate Jewelry of Vintage, and Different Time Periods. Sometimes this jewelry can be confused with Antique jewelry which is 100 plus years old. Not all estate jewelry will be antique jewelry. 

When dealing with vintage, antique, and estate jewelry it is very helpful for you to educate yourself with the styles, and the eras of such jewelry. Vintage jewelry is actually many things. Nostalgic, unique of course, artistic, and etc. Educating yourself with the different eras will help give you the confidence, and the peace of mind needed when viewing for your collections. 

As we have often seen over time when viewing vintage jewelry it has an enticing character all its own. These pieces are some of the most finely crafted works of art within the jewelry world. After learning what went into making such pieces you can appreciate even more their unique beauty on an entirely different level. 

Each decorative period has its own signature that helps us to date times, trends, and to spot reproductions. So, when you find a box of jewelry when you are thrifting, or maybe junking you might want to have a closer look. Some of the pieces you find will belong to a time, and maybe are not to be repurposed, upcycled, etc. 

Make sure to look for distinquishing makers marks, learn where to find the marks, sometimes marks are not found, and some pieces from time will have a patina with them too.  

Here are a few eras to look for, learn about, and get educated with:

Victorian 1835 - 1910
Edwardian & Belle Epoque 1890 - 1910
Art Deco 1915 - 1935
Retro and Mid-Century 1935 - 1960. This is one time that most women attach to due to their mother, 
                                                            or Grandmothers rings were from this period. 
Estate 1960 - to Present Day

There is much more out there noted with eras, and dates. It is a never ending process with vintage jewelry, and trying to learn more about it. If you find pieces you like, and maybe need some kind of minor repair please be selective in finding a handful of jewelers who will work confidentially on vintage pieces. 

Remember, it is important to do your research, and make sure to ask questions of selling places. If you find a dealer who maybe does not seem confident in the age, and authenticity of pieces it become a deal breaker for you.

Why You Should Buy Vintage

I know many of my postings I share have been mostly about diy projects, craft items, upcycling, repurposing, and so on. I honestly do like vintage as well, and just adore how some still like to dress from those times in todays times. 

There is really quite a bit of vintage items out there for us if we want to look for it, and have some fun with it too. There is vintage jewelry, clothing, furniture, patterns, home decor, dinnerware, glassware, kitchenwares, accessories, lighting, suitcases, travel trailers, cars, and so much more! I adore looking at pictures of those times, collecting a few pieces along the way, and believe it to still be a fun time to cherish too. 

While researching about vintage a little bit I had found a notation made about 7 reasons to buy vintage. Beware, a lot of the vintage things that get shown is with clothing. You just have to reword, and dig a little bit deeper to find a little bit of everything vintage. Anyway, those reasons I made a note of that I found are as follows:  

1) Vintage is Unique. 
     This is true really. If you were to buy some of the clothing you would not have to worry about wearing it, and having others duplicate what you have worn. 

2) Vintage has a positive environment impact. 
     Going green, saving items from the landfills, once in a while upcycling and repurposing some pieces to better fit with the times of today, and things like that. 

3) Vintage is the source of inspiration. 
     How true this is when you truly think about it. Sometimes in designing clothes, cars, home decor, and etc we refer to times past. From that time we sometimes use items from there as a model for us when we do things. 

4) Quality
     That old saying "they don't make things like they use to" How many times have we heard parents, grandparents, and some of our elders make this comment? In all reality things were made better back in those days, and of course that is how many of them have survived over time for us to cherish today. 

5) Vintage is an investment.
     For many people this is true. Right off the top of my mind I am thinking about car collections, how some like to collect toys that are vintage, art, home decor, furniture, etc. It truly is an investment as over time some items have obtained a value for their existence today.

6) Vintage has history. 
     This is so true! If only those walls could talk to us, and tell us everything, right? Like others I like to learn the past life of an item, how it was made, and the popularity of it back in the day too.

7) Celebrities wear vintage.
     Not only in the old movies that have been revised do they wear items then, but some like to wear it when they are at different functions for all to see. Hey, there truly is nothing wrong with that. It is kind of fun to see this done, and I applaud those who do this as well. 

Vintage is something that has seen, and already lived life. It has seen good times along with bad times too. Yet, many pieces have survived still looking good, and stylish today too. As mentioned before I think that the history of pieces is enjoyable too. Careful when shopping vintage because there are some new items that are made to look old, but are not vintage. That is fine because we sometimes cannot afford vintage, but make sure you know these things when making your lists and shopping. Vintage does not mean retro either. 

Shopping vintage can be overwhelming at times. It helps to make a general list of things you are looking for with maybe some small notations to clarify in your searches too.  Everything was made better back in the day, and you never know what treasure you just might uncover!

Clocks From Vintage Old Antique and DIY

Clocks of all shapes, forms, sizes, colors, textures, materials, etc. How many does a person have of them? Do you have a clock for each room in the home. Is maybe your clock a vintage clock, antique clock, a family heirloom, or maybe it is a diy craft clock done by you or by someone else. 

I never really paid attention to how many kinds of clocks there actually are. All the colors, the shapes, the sizes, and how they are made. When you are lounging sometime check with Pinterest, Google, Bing, Yahoo, don't forget your handmade sites like Etsy, or however you wish to search. You will see all kinds of sizes, full wall sizes, mid sizes, desktop sizes, etc. You will see them made from all different materials that consist of wheel rims, buttons, picture frames, plastic spoons, wood, ceramic, plates, personal photos, mosaic, and there is sooo many ways to mention. It becomes an endless list. 

Have a look with some that were shared above, and if you want more ideas check with websites for stores, look at pinterest, and make sure to check with your search engines as well. When you get to most of the places in searches if you click on the images tab you will see from there the kinds that many others have shared.

Patina is a very interesting look of being worn, of being aged, and comes on many kinds of surfaces with many techniques. Many times you will see it with a worn weathered look, maybe forms of metal that have that outdated worn look from time, colored and rusty patina, and most frequently just that old worn time look. This is a look that many of us like to incorporate into our homes with different pieces, and over time have found that there are techniques for us to achieve this same look ourselves. 

There are many times that we can achieve this look with a little bit of sanding, and adding some different techniques of painting. When you layer like 2 to 3 shades of color in similar shades you can create a depth, and wonderful character for the piece.  Maybe using a sponge, or a brush and some layering we can also create this same look with another twist to it. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of paint to get the look that you would like.

Who would have guessed that some of this old worn stuff would later be treasured! Items that have texture, patina, and vintage character is a look that many of us have added to our homes over time, and a look to this day that is still much sought after too.

I adore pieces from another time without the new shiny look. Who needs the new items from factory. It's about balancing, and paying respect to the old with maybe some uneven textures, interesting vintage antiques, collectibles, and some aged items over time.

Welcome to LilacsNDreams everyone! Glad you found me, and that you are back to visit too.

Had a great weekend with our son visiting. Before I took him back to base we were able to spend a couple of days with a dear friend of mine. Never enough time to do it all, right? Enjoyed it while we could.

Got home, and was ready to relax, and of course get on the computer. That's all the further I got. Computer having some issue, and once I feel better i will need to take it for some help. Nothing serious I am sure, but won't let me fix it. I think it's wanting attention from someone else....lol.

So, wish me luck, and bear with me. Just maybe I can get my son's laptop figured out, and use that while I am waiting. I am not a computer techie, and the laptop is foreign to me. Technology, right?
